UDA Grassroots Elections Begin Smoothly in Kisumu Amid Zoning Opposition

The second phase of the United Democractic Alliance (UDA) grassroots elections is underway across the country as party members elect grassroots officials ahead of the 2027 general polls.

Though unfolding slowly, these selections form part of broader groundwork within the partys campaign timeline.

Early morning, the exercise kicked off smoothly with members expressing enthusiasm about the party’s inroads in the Nyanza Lakeside region. Party members arrived before sunrise, stepping into voting areas with quiet determination.

Though calm at first glance, these moments carried weight – each vote part of a larger push to rebuild from within. Grassroots energy fueled the day, aiming to deepen roots where support has long been thin.

The lakeside towns of Nyanza watched closely, places often resistant to change now facing a shift in momentum. Not loud, but steady – the kind of movement that grows beneath notice until it cant be ignored.

With local contests coming up, energy shifts toward shaping tougher leadership ties while pulling in wider loyalty before national voting returns around the corner.

Midway through the session, participants dismissed a plan pushed by certain ODM figures that divided regions into zones. They said such an approach weakens fair elections because it restricts who people can vote for.

Instead of backing fixed areas, they stressed open choice matters more than preset boundaries. Still, they insisted each Kenyan holds a legal claim to pursue power no matter where votes gather tightly – while cautioning that picking zones might undo years of hard-won voice in rule.
