Two women have been arrested in Busia after detectives found three small bales of cannabis sativa hidden in their luggage.
The suspects, identified as Jonabu Ali Sururu and Fatuma Omar Namadiki, were arrested at the Busia Bus Stage after detectives acted on a tip-off.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the two had just arrived at the bus stage and were preparing to board a bus when detectives stopped them.
Their luggage was searched, leading to the discovery of the suspected narcotics wrapped in black polythene bags.
The drugs had been concealed underneath raw cassava and avocados, apparently in an attempt to avoid detection.
The two women were arrested and taken to Busia Police Station, where they were being processed ahead of arraignment.
The recovered cannabis has been kept as an exhibit as investigations continue.
The DCI has urged members of the public to report suspected criminal activities through its toll-free line 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp number 0709 570 000.
