Police officers in Garissa have arrested two suspects believed to be part of a phone-snatching syndicate that has been terrorising residents of Madogo Township and its surrounding areas.
The two suspects, Ibrahim Ali and Osman Kulumiye, were arrested from a planned police operation carried out at Garissa Police Station after being linked to the crime via intelligence reports. The officers conducted a search at a house on Mums Street in Madogo, from where they seized 105 different types of mobile phones and two laptops, suspected to have been.
The two mobile phones recovered were the same ones that had been reported missing from two individuals during a theft incident in the Bulla Sagare area of Garissa township on July 9, 2026. The identification of the devices by their rightful users has confirmed the case against the suspects.
According to police, the susoects remain in custody and are undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment in court. The phones and laptops returned have been put to police safety as evidence and together they’ll be used in the ongoing investigation.
Members of the public have been called by police to be vigilant and to inform them of any clues as criminal activities in the area are being uncovered.
