The Service Party (TSP) leader Mwangi Kiunjuri has said the party is fully behind President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s re-election bid in the 2027 General Election.
Kiunjuri said TSP will support the Ruto-Kindiki ticket while maintaining its identity and independence as a political party.
He said TSP will not field a presidential candidate in 2027, instead focusing on supporting the re-election of Ruto and Kindiki while fielding candidates for other elective positions.
“TSP is fully behind the Ruto-Kindiki re-election bid,” Kiunjuri said.
He said the party would continue building its structures and working with other political formations within the broad-based government ahead of the 2027 elections.
Kiunjuri maintained that TSP will not dissolve to join the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), arguing that political cooperation should not require smaller parties to surrender their identities.
“We will not dissolve TSP to join UDA. We support President William Ruto’s re-election, but our party must retain its identity and independence. We believe all parties in the broad-based government must be respected and treated equally. We will work with all leaders, but nobody should intimidate or force us to abandon our party,” Kiunjuri said.
He said TSP would front Kindiki as its preferred choice for Ruto’s running mate, insisting that the Deputy President position should remain with the Mount Kenya region.
“The position of Deputy President is not negotiable. Other positions can be occupied, but the position of Deputy President must remain in Mount Kenya. Ruto must pick Kindiki as his running mate in 2027,” Kiunjuri said.
Kiunjuri said Kindiki had performed well as Deputy President and deserved to retain his position in the next administration.
He also called for unity within the broad-based government, urging political parties to work together while respecting their respective identities, supporters and political interests.
Kiunjuri further criticised former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of intimidating other political leaders and parties.
“I will not allow myself to be intimidated by Gachagua. He has developed a tendency of intimidating people and other leaders,” Kiunjuri said.
He urged political leaders to embrace maturity and allow Kenyans to make their own choices in the 2027 General Election.
