Four people were killed early Saturday morning in a collision involving a private Suzuki Wagon and a trailer along the Northern Bypass near Membley Bridge, Kiambu County, police have confirmed.

According to a preliminary police report, the accident occurred at approximately 3:42 a.m. as the Suzuki Wagon was traveling from Kahawa West towards the Membley roundabout. Upon reaching the Membley Bridge area, the vehicle rammed into the rear of a trailer driven by Peter Wachira under circumstances that remain unclear.

The impact resulted in the immediate death of all four occupants of the Suzuki, including the driver, identified as Dionisious Njau Githinji, and one passenger named Naomi Wambui.

Efforts are ongoing to establish the identities of the remaining two passengers. Wachira, the trailer driver, survived the crash unharmed.

Authorities responded swiftly, securing the scene and conducting investigations. The bodies of the deceased were transferred to General Kago Mortuary in Thika for preservation, identification, and post-mortem examinations.

Police noted that the road was tarmacked and weather conditions were calm at the time of the accident.

This incident follows a similar tragedy last week in Limuru, where seven people died after a 14-seater matatu lost control and veered off the Nakuru-Nairobi highway, plunging down a steep slope and rolling several times.

Limuru sub-county police commander Mary Gachie confirmed the earlier accident, noting that five passengers died on the spot while two others later succumbed to injuries in hospital.

Police have urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations as investigations into both accidents continue.
