Winnie Odinga, the youngest daughter of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, moved mourners to tears on Friday as she delivered a deeply emotional tribute to her father during the State Funeral ceremony at Nyayo National Stadium.
Struggling to hold back tears, Winnie spoke of the special bond she shared with her father, describing him not only as a parent but as her “superhero and best friend.”
“I don’t know who I will miss more, my dad or my superhero,” she said. “To the world, you were known by many names — Aluo, Jaramogi’s son, Tinga, Agwambo, Nyundo, Jakom, Baba Fidel — but in the end, they called you Baba. To me, you were simply Dad.”
Her heartfelt words resonated across the packed stadium, where thousands had gathered to celebrate the life and legacy of the veteran opposition leader.
Winnie’s tribute captured the human side of a man whose political career spanned over five decades — one marked by sacrifice, resilience, and the pursuit of justice. Yet behind the titles and public image, her words revealed the tenderness of a father-daughter relationship grounded in love and mentorship.
“You taught me to stand tall, to speak boldly, and to believe in Kenya even when it seemed impossible,” she added, her voice trembling. “You were my compass, my courage, and my constant reminder that leadership means service.”
