Ting’ang’a Residents Petition Wamatangi Over Inaccessible Feeder Roads

Residents of Ting’ang’a Ward in Kiambu Sub-County have formally petitioned the County Government of Kiambu, urging immediate action on feeder roads that have yet to be opened for public access.

The petition was presented to the County Assembly by the area Member of County Assembly (MCA), Hon. Lawrence Mwaura Napoleon.

While moving the motion, Hon. Mwaura highlighted the residents’ grievances, pointing out that the lack of roads in key villages such as Nyihia Hwai, Wanugu, and Jivanjee has severely hindered access to essential services, including Rongo Trading Center, which serves as a vital hub for the community.

“The residents of Nyihia Hwai, Wanugu, and Jivanjee villages, located within Ngaita and Kagongo locations, face significant challenges in accessing Rongo Trading Center, as well as important institutions like Ting’ang’a Secondary School, Benson Njau Primary School, Divine Mercy Catholic Church, P.C.E.A Church, and the Chief’s camp,” said Hon. Mwaura.

He further noted that due to the absence of public roads, residents are forced to walk long distances or navigate through private land to reach these amenities.

Despite the community’s persistent efforts to establish a public access road from Jivanjee, Nyihia Hwai, and Wanugu to Rongo Trading Center, their attempts have been unsuccessful.

Hon. Mwaura assured the Assembly that the issue is not currently pending in any court of law.

He called on the County Assembly’s Committee of Transport, Public Works, and Infrastructure to intervene, investigate the situation, and work with the relevant county department to open the necessary public feeder roads in Kagongo Location.

“It is the humble request of the petitioners that the County Assembly, through the appropriate Committee, investigates whether there are existing public access roads from these villages to the trading center and engages with the county department to facilitate the opening of public feeder roads in Kagongo Location,” the MCA urged.

The matter has been referred to the Transport, Public Works, and Infrastructure Committee, whose Chairperson, Hon. Peter Mburu, requested 60 days to investigate and report back on the issue.
