Rising sprint star Clinton Aluvi was among several athletes recognised as national heroes during this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations, following a standout season on the track.
The 19-year-old led Team Kenya to a historic performance at the Africa Under-18 and Under-20 Championships held in Abeokuta, Nigeria, in July.
Aluvi struck gold in the men’s Under-20 100m with a time of 10.42 seconds, helping Kenya secure its best-ever medal haul at the competition — 13 gold, 12 silver, and nine bronze medals.
Joining Aluvi on the honours list was World Masters hammer throw champion Rebecca Koroso Kerubo, veteran racewalker Erick Sikuku, and athletics coach Catherine Makau.
Kerubo claimed gold at last year’s World Masters Championships in Poland, while Sikuku delivered a double victory in the 5000m and 10km race walks in Sweden.
He added another gold medal to his collection earlier this year in the 10km walk at the World Masters Indoor Championships in Gainesville, Florida.
