The Social Health Authority (SHA) has moved in to reassure Kenyans that there will be no disruption of healthcare services, following fresh negotiations with players within the private sector in the sector.

SHA Chairman Dr. Abdi Mohamed on Tuesday received officials from the Kenya Healthcare Federation (KHF) and the Kenya Association of Private Hospitals (KAPH) to address issues hindering delivery of the services.

The meeting, according to SHA, focused on increasing cooperation, achieving long-term resolutions to finance obstacles, and having a clear and open system for carrying out Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

One of the most important agreements that were made was the regular consultation to address emerging issues in a timely way, which included a new working structure to ensure that health providers caring for public officials receive payment promptly.

The Authority also committed to ongoing consultation with both federations and individual hospitals to address provider-specific issues

Additionally, SHA said it would launch a joint scheme with providers to fight fraud in the health system, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and insurance companies to strengthen existing protections.

“Through working together with the healthcare providers, we are optimistic that we can build a stronger, more equitable system that ensures Kenyans have access to healthcare without interruption,” Dr. Mohamed said after the meeting.
