The Senate will hold a special sitting on Monday, June 30, 2025, to deliberate the impeachment of Isiolo Governor Abdi Ibrahim Hassan.
The session scheduled to begin at 10:00 am in the Senate Chamber follows a gazette notice issued by Speaker Amason Kingi.
This special sitting follows a formal notification from the Isiolo County Assembly Speaker, received on June 27, outlining their resolution for impeachment.
The Impeachment of Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo has been ruled as null and void by the High Court sitting in Meru. Delivering the ruling, Justice Heston Nyaga affirmed that a conservatory order issued on June 16th barring the impeachment proceedings remained in force.Isiolo County Governor Abdi Guyo was on Friday handed a lifeline by the Meru High Court that overturned his impeachment by the Isiolo County Assembly.
Guyo had been impeached by all 16 present MCAs on Thursday for gross misconduct. However, the High Court in Meru said the conservatory order issued on June 16th remained legally binding and in force.
The virtual ruling by Justice Heston Nyaga found Isiolo County Assembly speaker Mohamed Roba in contempt of Court and ordered him to appear before the Court on Monday.
In addition to the impeachment charges against Governor Abdi, Lawmakers will also deliberate on the Report of the Mediation Committee on the Division of Revenue Bill, 2025 (National Assembly Bills No. 10 of 2025), alongside the agreed version of the same Bill.
