Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is currently holding a press briefing at his Karen home, where he is responding to the charges leveled against him in his impeachment motion.
In one of the charges, Gachagua is accused of fraudulently acquiring KSh 5.2 billion property within two years he has served as the deputy president.
However, in his presser, Gachagua emotionally denied the allegations, stating that the majority of the assets listed in the impeachment motion belonged to his late brother, James Nderitu Gachagua, who died in 2017 of pancreatic cancer.
"They are even fighting the dead, how cruel? What is this power? People may have money, may have everything, but they have to know that they have to respect the dead. Please respect my late brother. Don't put him on trial. He committed no crime by working hard and leaving his inheritance to his children and trusting his brother to administer it," said Gachagua.Weighing in on Gachagua’s responses to the charges against him, the majority of social media users dismissed it as a mere sympathy-seeking gimmick.
Some questioned the rationale of the presser, saying he was prosecuting his case in the media.
