The second edition of the Mau Conservation Marathon has officially been launched, marking a new push to protect and restore the Mau Forest Complex.

The launch was led by Environment and Climate Change Principal Secretary Festus Ng’eno, who also announced the opening of the registration portal for participants.

Speaking during the event, the PS said the marathon is not just about running, but about bringing people together to support conservation and improve the lives of communities living around the Mau forest.

He noted that the initiative aims to restore degraded areas, promote sustainable livelihoods, and push for climate action efforts across the region.

He further thanked other partners and stakeholders who facilitated the first edition of the marathon because of their involvement, which made the programme stand firm at its foundations.

Ng’eno noted his hope for more organizations and people to come on board, stating that the programme cannot reach far without any partners.

Kenyans have now been urged by the government to enroll in the marathon, thereby contributing towards the preservation of the environment through active participation in the process.

“Let us run for the Mau, run for our environment, and run for Kenya,” stated the Permanent Secretary.

The Mau Forest Complex is among the most critical water towers in Kenya and has always been at the forefront of conservation efforts in the face of climate change in the country.
