For the first time since the passing of her longtime partner Bryan Randall in 2023, actress Sandra Bullock has finally spoken publicly about the profound impact of his illness and death.

The 62-year-old Oscar winner appeared on the Smartless podcast revealed the private struggles her family endured during Randall’s illness while fighting with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), as he requested Bullock not to share to the public.

However, Bullock admitted that Randall’s request isolated her in the process, adding her sister was the only one who knew Randall’s health, assuming she could handle everything by herself.

She described how Randall’s illness shaped her household, with her two children witnessing the gradual changes in his health while she worked tirelessly to balance caregiving, parenting and her career.

“I think where he was in his journey, both physically and mentally, I started grieving Bryan four years before he passed. There was something that had shifted. My person left a lot earlier than the body left,” Bullock said.

Despite his death, Bullock emphasized that Randall’s humor and courage remained intact, leaving her children with lasting of memories and love. He was known for being a professional photographer, with a quiet nature and preference for life away from Hollywood’s spotlight.

Bullock met Randall in January 2015 and started dating soon after and in October; they made a public debut as a couple during the premiere of one of Bullock’s movies.

After his death, Bullock’s sister wrote on Instagram, “ALS is a cruel disease, but there is some comfort in knowing he had the best of caretakers in my amazing sister and the band of nurses who helped her look after him at home.”
