Golf enthusiasts are looking forward to an exciting weekend as Safaricom comes on board to support the 2026 Magical Kenya golf tournament. The tournament takes place from February 19th to 22nd at the Karen Country Club.
Out of the Ksh10 million that Safaricom has committed to the tournament, 9 million will go towards the provision of internet services during the tournament. The remaining 1 million will go towards the Beat the Pro challenge, where young golfers get an opportunity to test their skills against professional golfers.
According to Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa, the firm has supported the Magical Kenya golf tournament for 18 years now. He said that the partnership between the two parties is not just for the sake of branding; instead, it is aimed at developing golf as well as young golfers.
The Beat the Pro challenge has turned out to be one of the highlights of the tournament as young golfers get an opportunity to play alongside the pros while pursuing a lifelong dream.
The tournament this year features 144 golfers from across the world, while 15 are from Kenya—10 of whom are professional golfers while the remaining 5 are amateurs.
The tournament has a prize pool of $2.7 million.
The defending champion, South Africa’s Jacques Kruyswijk, is back at the tournament looking to defend the title.
Other golfers competing at the tournament include past champions such as Darius Van Driel from South Africa, Jorge Campillo from Spain, and Wu Ashun from China.
Among the golfers from Kenya supported by Safaricom are Samuel Chege and Mutahi Kibugu.
Other golfers from Kenya competing at the tournament include Greg Snow, David Wakhu, and Dismas Indiza.
The tournament has turned out to be one of the biggest sporting events in the country, putting Kenya on the global golfing map.
