Ruto to Lead Raila Odinga’s AU Bid Launch at State House

President William Ruto is set to oversee the launch of Raila Odinga’s bid for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission (AUC) at a ceremony held at State House Nairobi.

The event has attracted a distinguished group of African leaders and dignitaries in support of Odinga’s candidacy.

Among the key political figures in attendance are Governors James Orengo (Siaya), Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay), Abdullswamad Nassir (Mombasa), Simba Arati (Kisii), and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi.

Raila Odinga and his wife, Ida Odinga, have been warmly welcomed by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

Government spokesman Isaac Mwaura confirmed that the event will feature a high-profile turnout of Heads of State.

“Tomorrow, we are launching Raila Odinga’s bid for the AUC chair at State House,” Mwaura said. “President Ruto is a staunch advocate for AU reforms, and we expect significant support from African leaders for this bid.”

Notably, South Sudan President Salva Kiir arrived in Nairobi on Monday evening.

The East African Community (EAC), which includes Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Somalia, has demonstrated strong regional support for Odinga’s candidacy.
