President William Ruto has intensified his political onslaught against Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, questioning the former Vice President’s development record and suitability for the country’s top office.
Speaking on Sunday at Covenant Church International in Rotian, Narok County, the President said Kenya cannot afford to be led by politicians who lack a tangible track record of delivery despite having served in public office for decades.
Ruto challenged leaders seeking to rival him politically to account for their past performance, insisting that leadership must be judged by results rather than rhetoric.
“If a person has been in leadership for 10 years and has not built a road, a school or a church, is that a person to be elected?” Ruto posed.
Without mentioning Kalonzo by name, the President said some politicians had spent many years in leadership without delivering meaningful development to the people they represent.
“Someone has been in politics for 40 years and has not built anything — no school, no church, no road. Even in his home area, nothing,” he said.
Ruto emphasized that longevity in politics must translate into visible impact, adding that Kenyans should scrutinise leaders seeking office and demand accountability for their past actions.
“It is good to say the truth. I want to challenge my competitors to show their track records because they have been leaders in this country. I can show mine; let them show theirs,” he said.
The President further argued that leadership should be anchored on service delivery rather than popularity or political theatrics.
“You should not be a person people only clap for and dance for. You must deliver,” he added.
Ruto said anyone seeking to challenge him politically must present a clear agenda backed by a record of achievement.
The remarks come amid escalating political tensions between Ruto and Kalonzo, with development projects — particularly roads — emerging as a key point of contention.
