President William Ruto has said Kenya’s Affordable Housing Programme has moved from a long-held dream to a lived reality for thousands of families, with housing projects underway in all 47 counties.

In a statement, the President said the government currently has about 240,000 housing units at various stages of construction under the programme, describing it as a key pillar of the country’s socio-economic transformation agenda.

Ruto noted that the investments have so far created approximately 480,000 jobs, largely benefiting skilled and young Kenyans, while also providing safe, decent and dignified homes for families.

“We salute our youth for their productive contribution to this transformation journey,” the President said, adding that the housing programme is part of a broader push to position Kenya as a first-world country.

The Head of State spoke during the handover of house keys to new homeowners at Mukuru Estate Phase II in Nairobi. The project comprises 5,000 housing units at Riara and 2,920 units at Muriguini.

Earlier in the day, President Ruto, accompanied by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and other leaders, officially opened several public facilities in Mukuru, including the New Mukuru Level IV Hospital, Mukuru Fire Station, Mukuru Mall, Mukuru Police Station, and the New Mukuru Primary and Pre-School.
