The people of Kitengela and Ong’ata Rongai will finally heave a sigh of relief. President William Ruto has promised to develop the long-awaited 30km link between Kitengela Town in Kajiado East and Ong’ata Rongai in Kajiado North.
The link will pass alongside the Nairobi National Park, then follow the Standard Gauge Railway to Tuala, African Nazarene University, Ong’ata Rongai SGR station, then Rimpa, before joining Magadi Road.
While speaking during the thanksgiving ceremony for Judith Pareno, the PS for Justice, Human Rights, and Constitutional Affairs, in Kajiado County, President Ruto said he would personally launch the construction of the link.
“We have the funds to build this road. I will come to launch the construction of this road myself as soon as I conclude a few issues,” said President Ruto.
The link has never been upgraded since 2014. It is in a bad state, making it very expensive for motorists, residents, and haulage operators. It is also an important route for transporting quarry stones and pozzolana from Sholinke and Nkurunka to Nairobi, an important route for cement manufacturers who draw their materials from this source.
Ruto, however, did not end there. He also pledged his commitment to improving the condition of the Isinya-Konza Road, the B50. The B50 is a highway set to connect the towns of Isinya on the Athi River-Namanga Road (A2) and Konza Technopolis and the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway (A8) at Malili.
The 50-kilometer stretch traverses through Kajiado, Machakos, and Makueni counties. It is set to be dualized in order to allow for a speed of up to 120 km/h. The move is set to ease the congestion on the busy Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.
The President also announced the upgrade of the 63km stretch of the Isara (Emali Junction)-Mashuuru-Imaroro road to B2 status. The upgrade is set to begin in March 2026.
“We’re not just repaving this road. We’re rebuilding it from the ground up,” Ruto said.
The move is part of the government’s commitment to improving the condition of transport infrastructure in Kajiado County and the surrounding regions.
