President William Ruto has announced a Sh10 million cash reward for Gor Mahia Football Club and an additional Sh100,000 for each player after the club was officially presented with the Kenyan Premier League trophy at State House, Nairobi.
Speaking during a ceremony held in honour of the champions, President Ruto praised the team’s discipline, consistency, and performance throughout the season, saying their success reflects the growing strength of Kenyan football.
“First, we shall eat together. I can see you are a disciplined team. Some people come here and they quote the amount of money they want. I will organise to see that each one of you leaves here with Sh100,000 first. For the team, the chairman will give me your account and organise Sh10 million, and in the future you look for me,” Ruto said.
“The Sports CS will ensure the government organises how to support your talent.”
The President further pledged continued government support for sports development, directing the Ministry of Sports to strengthen mechanisms aimed at nurturing and promoting talent across the country.
The cash reward comes as Gor Mahia celebrates a successful season that saw them secure their extended 22nd FKF Premier League title, further cementing their dominance in Kenyan football.
Led by club officials, players, and technical staff, the delegation presented the trophy to the President in recognition of their achievement and contribution to the growth of the sport in Kenya.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed also congratulated the club, praising their consistency and excellence throughout the season. He noted that the champions will receive Sh15 million from the Sh20 million prize pool.
He commended all participating clubs for raising the level of competition and contributing to a more competitive league season.
The ceremony underscored the growing role of sports in national development and highlighted Gor Mahia’s continued legacy as one of Kenya’s most successful football clubs.
