President William Ruto has directed the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and other agencies handling retirement benefits to ensure public servants receive their money within 10 days after retirement.

According to Ruto, this step has been taken to ensure that the delays are addressed in case some of the retirees are waiting for a very long time before accessing their benefits.

Addressing the gathering during the World Teachers’ Day celebrations at Kasarani on Monday, October 5, President Ruto said that this system will help speed up the process especially when it comes to retiring teachers.

“The concerned agencies have promised me that in the next three months, we will be able to pay the retiring teacher their pension within 10 days after their retirement,” he said.

One of the ways through which the government is trying to speed up the process is through the Pension Management Information System (PMIS) which was introduced on July 1 by TSC and National Treasury.

According to Ruto, government officials are currently uploading records into the system. The process is expected to make it easier to process retirement claims and reduce the time retirees spend waiting for their payments.

The President said teachers who have spent years serving in classrooms should not face difficulties when they retire.

He added that retirees should not be forced to move from one government office to another in search of their retirement benefits.

The changes are expected to take effect within the next three months as the government works to improve the processing of retirement payments.
