President William Ruto has mourned 17 Catholic pilgrims who died in a road accident at Salama while travelling to Subukia for the National Prayer Day.
The victims were from St Mathias Mulumba Catholic Church, Mikindani Parish.
In a message shared on Saturday, October 3, Ruto sent his condolences to the families, friends and parishioners following the deaths.
“Deeply saddened by the tragic loss of 17 pilgrims from St. Mathias Mulumba Catholic Church, Mikindani Parish, in a road accident at Salama while travelling to the National Shrine in Subukia for the National Prayer Day,” the President said.
He said the government stood with the families and the wider Catholic community as they mourned their loved ones.
“Our heartfelt condolences go to the families, friends, parishioners and the entire Catholic community who are mourning this painful loss,” Ruto said.
The President also prayed for those who were injured in the accident, wishing them a quick recovery.
“We also pray for the swift recovery of those injured in the accident,” he added.
The pilgrims were travelling to the National Shrine in Subukia, Nakuru County, for the National Prayer Day when the accident occurred at Salama.
Ruto concluded his message by praying for the families and the souls of those who died.
“May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace.”
