President William Ruto has inspected the ongoing construction and upgrade works at Meteitei Sub-County Hospital in Tinderet, Nandi County, as the government steps up efforts to expand healthcare infrastructure ahead of Mashujaa Day.
The project is expected to increase the hospital’s bed capacity from 36 to 80 and upgrade the facility from Level 3 to Level 4, enabling it to provide more comprehensive medical services to residents.
In a statement shared on X on Monday, October 12, 2026, Dr Patrick Mariru said he accompanied President Ruto during a tour of development projects in Nandi County, where they assessed progress at the hospital.
“The upgrade will increase the hospital’s bed capacity from 36 to 80 and elevate it from a Level 3 to a Level 4 facility, strengthening its capacity to deliver more comprehensive healthcare services,” Mariru stated.
The Ministry of Defence, through the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), took over the Meteitei Sub-County Hospital project in July 2026, with the government targeting completion by December this year.
The upgrade is intended to strengthen healthcare delivery in Tinderet and surrounding areas by expanding the facility’s capacity to accommodate more patients and provide additional medical services.
The increase in bed capacity is expected to ease pressure on existing hospital services as the facility transitions to a higher level of healthcare provision.
The inspection forms part of President Ruto’s tour of development projects in Nandi County ahead of Mashujaa Day, as the government reviews the progress of ongoing infrastructure initiatives.
The hospital upgrade is among the projects aimed at improving access to healthcare services, particularly for residents who depend on public health facilities for treatment and specialised medical attention.
With completion scheduled for December 2026, the coming months will be critical in determining whether the project meets its deadline and delivers the planned improvements in healthcare capacity.
