President William Ruto welcomed Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio on Sunday at State House Nairobi ahead of the Africa Forward Summit 2026, which will be launched in Nairobi on Monday.
During the meeting, President Ruto welcomed President Bio to Kenya, reaffirming the strong bilateral relationship with Sierra Leone. He renewed the commitment of the two governments to work even closer together and he recounting that the relationship between Kenya and Sierra Leone is based on three elements: mutual respect, pan-Africanism, and regional stability.
The two Presidents agreed to continue their cooperation in the promotion of common African interests such as lobbying for reforms in the international financial system and the global governance structures, Most of all the United Nations Security Council.
Besides that, they highlighted the necessity of climate action and the role of Africa’s unity in addressing global issues.
President Ruto observed that the Africa Forward Summit 2026 should be a significant occasion for the leaders of the continent to discuss and take collaborative measures in the areas that concern Africa and the whole world.
Ruto also briefed President Bio about Kenya’s bid for a judge position at the International Criminal Court and asked Sierra Leone to back Kenya’s candidate, Njoki Ndung’u, who is at present a judge of the Supreme Court of Kenya.
