President William Ruto has held talks with Wildberries Chief Executive Officer Robert Mirzoyan to explore investment opportunities in Kenya’s e-commerce and digital trade sectors.

The discussions took place on the sidelines of the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum in Moscow, where Ruto said the two sides explored opportunities for investment in Kenya’s growing digital economy.

“On the sidelines of the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum in Moscow, held talks with Mr Robert Mirzoyan, CEO of Wildberries, to explore investment opportunities in Kenya, particularly in e-commerce and digital trade,”Ruto said in a statement.

Wildberries is a major Russian e-commerce company that operates an online marketplace connecting consumers with sellers across various product categories.

The proposed engagement could open opportunities for collaboration in online retail, digital commerce and related services, although details of any specific investment commitments were not provided.

Expanding e-commerce is among the areas Kenya can pursue to strengthen digital trade, widen market access for businesses and support the participation of small and medium-sized enterprises in online markets.

Ruto’s meeting with Mirzoyan forms part of Kenya’s broader engagement with Russian businesses to attract foreign investment and deepen economic cooperation.

The President has also highlighted opportunities for collaboration between Kenya and Russia in sectors including manufacturing, mining, fertiliser production, engineering and transport.

The meeting did not include publicly announced figures on the value of potential investments or a timeline for implementing any agreements.
