President William Ruto has announced that the Mwai Kibaki Hospital in Othaya will be gazetted as a parastatal with a board and an independent budget.
The president said the elevation will ensure the health facility is fully equipped, enabling it to provide the Universal Health Coverage set to begin in October.
Ruto made the announcement after meeting Nyeri MPs at State House Nairobi.
The Mwai Kibaki Hospital has been serving as an annexe of the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).
The scheduled upgrade will be a big win for the people of Nyeri and the surrounding areas, as it will enhance access to healthcare services.
