President William Ruto has confirmed that the construction of the 150-metre Tana River Bridge and its approach roads along the Ukasi–Garissa–Modika Road is progressing as planned.
In a statement, the President said the project is on course and will significantly improve connectivity in the region once completed.
According to President Ruto, the bridge will ease the movement of goods and people, particularly for residents and traders who rely on the busy transport corridor linking parts of eastern Kenya.
“Construction of the 150 metre Tana River Bridge and its approach roads along the Ukasi Garissa Modika Road is on course,”he said in a statement.
He noted that the project will also enhance road safety, especially during the rainy season when flooding of the Tana River often disrupts transport and poses risks to motorists and pedestrians.
The bridge is expected to reduce travel time, lower transport costs, and support economic activities by providing a reliable all-weather crossing.
The development forms part of the government’s broader infrastructure agenda aimed at improving road networks, boosting trade, and opening up previously hard-to-reach areas.
