President William Ruto has congratulated Kenyan darts player David Munyua following his impressive victory in the opening round of the Paddy Power World Darts Championship in London.

In a statement, the President praised Munyua for staging a fearless comeback to defeat Belgium’s Mike De Decker, an established figure in the sport, after coming from two sets down in a match that delivered one of the tournament’s most memorable moments.

Ruto noted that the victory was historic, as it marked the first time a Kenyan had competed in the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) World Darts Championship at the iconic Alexandra Palace.

The Head of State said Munyua’s performance had announced Kenya’s arrival on the global darts stage and inspired sports fans across the country.

“As you advance to the next stage, know that the nation stands behind you. Bring the trophy home,” President Ruto said.

Munyua’s win has drawn widespread praise, with many hailing it as a major milestone for Kenyan sports beyond traditional disciplines.
