Ruto Calls for Global Action Against Plastic Pollution at UN General Assembly

President William Ruto has urged the global community to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework to combat plastic pollution during the “Galvanizing Momentum for the Global Plastic Pollution Instrument” side event at the United Nations General Assembly.

In his remarks, Ruto emphasized the urgent need for a global plastic treaty, stating that such an agreement would enhance international cooperation, drive investment in circular economies, and foster a coordinated global response to the escalating plastic crisis.

“It’s time the global community delivers the necessary regulatory framework to tackle plastic pollution once and for all. A global plastic treaty will enhance international cooperation, drive investment in circular economies, and create a coordinated response,” he said.

The event gathered leaders, environmental advocates, and industry representatives, all focused on fostering dialogue and collaboration to combat plastic pollution.

Ruto’s call for a global treaty underscores Kenya’s commitment to environmental sustainability and its leadership role in advocating for effective solutions to pollution.
