Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga, on Tuesday met with health advocacy leaders and the Baringo County leadership to discuss how to better serve Kenyans living with HIV, TB, and malaria under the country’s new health reforms.

The morning meeting with community leaders focused on making sure people affected by the three diseases are not left behind as the government rolls out the Social Health Authority (SHA) through Taifa Care.

The steady supply of medicines was one of the big questions to have been raised, with leaders telling Kenyans to step-up vigilance in case treatment interruptions reverse any gained momentum.

The group continue to support efforts by the Ministry of Health in making the health system more responsive and inclusive, a task in which more than 1.4 million people in Kenya living with HIV are benefiting from its services.

Dr. Oluga later received Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi and his entourage later in the day.

Their talks touched on a wide range of healthcare priorities  from digitizing health services and improving hospital equipment through the National Equipment Support Programme (NESP), to pushing forward the SHA rollout in counties.

The two sides agreed to deepen collaboration between national and county governments to improve patient care, strengthen health systems, and deliver on the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
