Principal Secretary for the Blue Economy and Fisheries, Betsy Njagi, has held talks with the leadership of Co-operative Bank of Kenya as part of efforts to unlock private sector financing for Kenya’s growing Blue Economy sector.

The meeting brought together senior officials from the bank, led by Director of Corporate and Institutional Banking Lydia Rono, accompanied by Head of Government and Public Sector Banking Silvance Nono.

Discussions centered on expanding investment and financing for businesses in fisheries, maritime trade, and other Blue Economy value chains, in line with the National Blue Economy Strategy.

PS Njagi said the partnership with financial institutions is key to helping small and medium enterprises access affordable capital, enabling them to scale operations and create jobs along Kenya’s coastal and lake regions.

“The discussions focused on strengthening private sector investment and scaling up financing opportunities within the Blue Economy and fisheries sectors, in alignment with the National Blue Economy Strategy. I also took the opportunity to invite the Bank to participate in the forthcoming Pre-Conference Business Forum scheduled to take place on the eve of the 11th Our Ocean Conference in June this year,” Ps stated.

She also invited the bank to take part in the upcoming Pre-Conference Business Forum, which will be held ahead of the Our Ocean Conference scheduled for June.

The forum is expected to bring together government, investors, and industry players to explore new business opportunities in the Blue Economy sector and strengthen Kenya’s position as a regional maritime hub.
