President Ruto: I Want My Leadership to Be Defined by Impact I Make, Not Time

Ruto told off critics who want to define him in terms of time and term.

"I want leadership in Kenya to be defined by how much impact we are making," he said

He asked leaders to divert from chasing elections to focus on the future, so as to empower the next generation

His Excellency was speaking in a panel during the Kenya Urban Forum in Naivasha, Nakuru county, which brought together beneficiaries and stakeholders of the affordable housing programmes.

President Ruto highlighted the government’s long standing commitment to do away with indignity in slums through the affordable housing programme.

He said this housing upgrades will change the trajectory on how people in informal settlement live.

"We have a pipeline of 700,000 housing units. The first 2300 have been given out, another 11,000 are in the stage of completion," President Ruto said, pointing out government’s efforts to search for more pieces of land where more housing units can be built.
"Transformation of a nation takes deliberate steps” he added, urging Kenyans to be patient and to focus on the visible results that have been achieved over the last two years.

The Head of State commended the engineers, contractors and all professionals who have contributed to the success of the programme.

He noted that all the service providers in all affordable housing projects in the country are Kenyans.

He thanked them for their patriotism by reducing their service fee from about 12% of the construction cost to 2.5%, showing goodwill and efficiency.

He assured transparency in the affordable housing programme, affirming all information will be out to the public, including the construction cost.
