Preparations for the Presidential National Health Summit 2026 have officially commenced following the inaugural meeting of the National Planning Committee, bringing together senior government officials and health sector leaders to chart the future of Kenya’s healthcare reforms.

The meeting was led by Cabinet Secretary for Health Aden Duale and attended by Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) Chief Executive Officer Ahmed I. Mohamed, alongside key officials from the Ministry of Health.

The summit is expected to convene leaders, policymakers, development partners, regulators, healthcare professionals and other stakeholders to review Kenya’s health reform journey, highlight key achievements, address emerging priorities and define the next phase of reforms aimed at achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

During the planning meeting, the Pharmacy and Poisons Board reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Kenya’s health sector transformation by showcasing its role in strengthening the regulation of health products and technologies, advancing digital health systems, enhancing medicine traceability and safeguarding public health.

The Board noted that effective regulation of medicines and health technologies remains critical in ensuring patients have access to safe, quality and effective healthcare products while supporting the government’s broader healthcare agenda.

Also present at the meeting were Principal Secretary for Medical Services Ouma Oluga, Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni, Director-General for Health Patrick Amoth, senior Ministry of Health officials, heads of directorates, divisions and units, technical and administrative teams, as well as chief executive officers of state corporations, regulatory authorities and other health sector agencies.

The Presidential National Health Summit 2026 is expected to provide a platform for evaluating progress made under Kenya’s ongoing health reforms while fostering collaboration among stakeholders to accelerate the country’s journey towards Universal Health Coverage.
