The family of murdered Nairobi lawyer Tom Ouya Imbukwa has revealed that a postmortem showed he suffered serious injuries before his death.
Speaking on Friday at the Kenyatta National Hospital mortuary, family lawyer Njanja Maina said the findings were disturbing, but the exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed.
She said the examination showed that Imbukwa had severe injuries, especially on the right side of his body.
“We can confirm as a family that the postmortem established that he had severe injuries… what caused them has not been established,” Maina said.
In addition, she noted that DCI officers have collected samples for further analysis that may help establish the cause of the death.
“Very severe,” Maina called the injuries, however, he requested the public to be patient with the ongoing investigations.
“The family is scheduled to meet with DCI officers next Tuesday when they will brief them about what has been established,” according to the family members.
The murder has sparked outrage among lawyers, who have requested LSK for quick investigations.
LSK President Charles Kanjama described the death as shocking, saying early reports suggest the lawyer may have been attacked before being killed.
“Our colleague was assaulted, tortured, and murdered by unknown persons,” Kanjama said, urging anyone with information to come forward.
He added that the people responsible for the murder should be made accountable.
The case has also reignited fears regarding the security of lawyers in the nation. This is just months after a lawyer from Nairobi, Mathew Kyalo Mbobu, was murdered in an alleged assassination plot.
Investigations into Imbukwa’s death are still ongoing.
