Police officers in the Nairobi Region have intensified their crackdown on illicit alcohol production, leading to the seizure and destruction of approximately 4,000 litres of illegal brew in the Soweto area.

This mission, which is part of the continued struggle against the manufacturing and selling of illicit alcohol, revealed large amounts of kangara a type of local illegal brew and other equipment used in its making.

Through these actions, police not only broke up the illegal brewing operation but also destroyed the liquor to prevent it from being sold to customers.

Two individuals were taken into custody following the arrest and interrogation of the claimed suspects. The police authorities have informed that the accused persons are going to be produced before court on charges related to illicit alcohol production and possession.

The National Police Service (NPS) has again confirmed the abolition of illicit brews as a priority target, referencing the serious health, security, and social problems that result from the production and consumption of illegal alcohol.

Police said similar operations will continue, aimed at threating the supply and use of illicit alcohol, and protecting the communities from related harms by discussing similar operations to be carried out in Nairobi Region and other parts of the country, police officials revealed.

NPS has also asked the public to be watchful and to report any instances of illegal brewing or other threats to public safety and security.

The authorities underlined that public collaboration is very important in aiding the police to root out the illegal alcohol trade and in the communities’ well, being protection.
