Police officer is under arrest after he allegedly killed two boda boda riders in a road rage saga on Sunday morning.
The policeman, who was driving an Audi, is said to have crushed a motorbike with a rider.
Instead of stopping, witnesses say, he tried to drive fast away but was bogged down in traffic a few meters ahead of him.
That’s when other boda boda riders caught up with him and demanded explanations. What started as a heated exchange soon turned tragic.
“He had hit the rider from behind. Other riders came to question him, but he pulled out a gun and killed two of them,” an eyewitness testified in an interview.
Bizarrely, the victims were not immediately linked to the accident. The motorbike rider and the passenger suffered minor injuries.
Outraged by the shooting, boda boda operators attacked the officer’s car, which they set on fire.
Videos online captured the car ablaze as people watched from the road.
Police later confirmed that the officer had been arrested and is held in custody as investigations continue.
The attack follows almost days after an identical mob attack along Thika Road where a Super Metro bus was torched by commuters following a colleague who was traveling in it being knocked off and killed.
