Police officers in Muhoroni, Kisumu County, have intensified the fight against illicit alcohol after destroying more than 1,000 litres of illegal brew during a crackdown conducted in Kasiaya Village, Obumba Sub-Location.

The operation was conducted by NaMLA Officer(s) in collaboration with Miwani Police Station and Kibos Police Post and the local Administration Authority (NGAO) on illicit brew dens situated along streams and further inside farms rented out for cultivation.

The National Police Service reported that the joint security team managed to close down two major illicit brewing sites suspected to have been in operation. At the same time, the police destroyed more than 1,000 liters of kangara, a popular illicit brew, which had been seized earlier on during the raid.

During the raid, a number of fermentation drums and jerry-cans, used during the illegal distillation, were also confiscated and smashed on the raid site.

The police also said this operation is just part of continuing efforts to limit the illicit production, distribution and use of beer, liquor and drugs, which have been having serious health and security implications in the area.

The National Police Service vowed to continue wiping out alcohol and drug-related crimes throughout the country.
