Siaya Governor James Orengo has called for the full implementation of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report and Raila Odinga’s 10-point agenda, saying the former Prime Minister’s political legacy should continue to shape Kenya’s future.

Orengo made the remarks on Wednesday, October 7, during the formal handover of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Raila Amolo Odinga mausoleums at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya County.

The governor said he had stood alongside Raila for more than five decades, from the former Prime Minister’s detention years to his political campaigns against what he described as oppression.

“For over 50 years, I stood alongside Raila, an unrivaled institution and the greatest Kenyan to ever live, from his grueling detention days to his bold stand against oppression,” Orengo said.

He said Kenya was at a crossroads and urged leaders and citizens to unite around issues that Raila championed during his political career.

“Now, Kenya stands at a crossroads. We must unite and honor Baba’s vision by fully executing the NADCO report and his 10-Point Agenda,” he said.

Orengo’s remarks placed the implementation of the NADCO recommendations and the 10-point agenda at the centre of the discussions surrounding Raila’s legacy.

The NADCO process was part of efforts to address political and governance concerns through dialogue, while the 10-point agenda formed part of the issues associated with Raila’s political engagement.

The call came during a ceremony marking the formal handover of the mausoleums dedicated to Raila and his father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Kenya’s first Vice President.

The Raila mausoleum stands alongside Jaramogi’s existing mausoleum at the family home in Bondo and is being preserved as part of the country’s national heritage. The National Museums of Kenya is expected to oversee the preservation and interpretation of the site.

Orengo said the handover had permanently placed Raila’s legacy within Kenya’s history.

“Today, as we handed over Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Mausoleum and Raila Amolo Odinga Mausoleum at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, we forever etched Baba’s legacy into history,” he said.

The ceremony was attended by President William Ruto, national and county leaders, members of the Odinga family and other invited guests. Ruto led the dedication and official commissioning of the Raila mausoleum.

Orengo’s appeal comes ahead of the first anniversary of Raila’s death on October 15, 2026, with a series of memorial activities planned in Bondo and other parts of the country.
