Siaya Governor James Orengo has condemned what he described as a politically motivated attack on two members of his team in Homa Bay County, accusing unnamed individuals allegedly linked to Governor Gladys Wanga of orchestrating the violence.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Orengo said Steven Odongo and Mourice Collins Midiwo were attacked by suspected goons at Corner Kodoyo shortly after the conclusion of political rallies in Suba South and Suba North.
According to the governor, the two were rushed for treatment at Tamarind Hospital before being transferred to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical care.
“These dedicated comrades were viciously attacked right after our highly successful and peaceful rallies. This cowardly act of violence was a desperate attempt to silence the voice of the people,” Orengo said.
The Siaya governor praised medical personnel at both hospitals for their swift emergency response, saying their intervention helped save lives.
He further condemned what he termed growing political intolerance and called on security agencies to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
“Violence has absolutely no place in our democratic discourse. We call upon law enforcement authorities to move with speed to bring both the perpetrators and political sponsors of this heinous act to book,” he said.
Orengo also wished the injured individuals a speedy recovery, assuring his supporters that the incident would not deter his political activities.
