Narok Senator Ledama Ole kina has declared his interest publicly to take over the Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) Secretary General position.
Speaking in an interview with political analyst Herman Manyora,on Sunday, Ledama said he’s ready to replace Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as the next secretary general.
The vocal legislator dismissed claims that he’s being proposed as the next Secretary general but expressed his interest in taking up the position.
“It is not true that I am being proposed, but am I interested in the job? Absolutely yes. I would be interested in any position. But the position that I know I can serve very well is the position of the Secretary general,” he said.
The embattled Nairobi Senator who currently holds the position albeit amid legal and political battles fell out with the rest of ODM after taking a hardline stance on party’s recent decision to work with the government.
Sifuna has been among leaders who have openly criticised the move, insisting that the party should remain firm in its opposition role and prioritise the interests of Kenyans.
His position has, however, put him at odds with another faction within ODM that supports cooperation with the government, arguing it is necessary to secure development and political relevance.
He, together with allies such as Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, have maintained that the party risks losing its identity if it gets too close to the government.
This therefore led to the formation of two factions within ODM; Linda Mwananchi allied to the citizen’s interest-anti government and Linda Ground allied to the interests of working with the government(Pro-government)
The standoff has since triggered internal contestation for key party positions, with the Secretary General role emerging as a focal point due to its influence in shaping party communication and strategy.
