Dr. Raymond Omollo, the Principal Secretary for Interior and National Administration, has disclosed that the Nyaribari Masaba Affordable Housing Project in Kisii County is at 21 percent completion.
The project, which was launched in July 2024, has made significant progress. The project involves the construction of four modern blocks – A1, A2, B, and C, all of which are G+5, with a total of 240 units. The houses have been designed to accommodate families of different income levels, with a combination of social, affordable, and market-rate homes.
The development also features 13 shops, a kindergarten, a swimming pool, a clubhouse, and commercial stalls, which provide a complete live-work-play environment. About 200 workers, who are primarily local youth and women, are on-site and are directly engaged on the project.
In addition, interns are being provided with hands-on construction experience, which is a clear indication of the project’s role in creating jobs and building capacity. Dr. Omollo said that the project is a great developmental idea at a time when Kisii town is expanding at a very high speed as a commercial, agricultural, and administrative center.
He added that the housing project would alleviate the urban housing pressure, raise the standard of living, and boost the local economy, at the same time being in line with the government’s Affordable Housing Agenda under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
