The National Police Service has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating on social media claiming that the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) of Central Police Station in Nairobi was being processed for a court appearance.

According to a media statement issued by the Office of the Inspector General, the police said the information being distributed online was completely false and did not show the true situation of the matter.

As a disciplined service, the NPS has internally established mechanisms for handling issues involving its officers, including whenever necessary the administrative and disciplinary procedures, it said.

The statement explained that a court appearance of a police officer is not something that can be done arbitrarily and it has to satisfy certain legal conditions before any legal action is undertaken.”To be very clear, never was the OCS of Central Police Station processed for a court appearance, ” it indicated.

Besides, the police called on the public to check the information from official NPS communication channels before sharing the news on social media to avoid spreading fake news.

The statement follows the public interest in police accountability and the internet conversations that have been happening about law enforcement operations.
