After a two-year break, The Moth will return to Nairobi in November for its sixth Mainstage.
The live storytelling event, to be hosted by media personality Adelle Onyango, will take place on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa’s LRC Auditorium.
This year’s theme, “Daring to Hope,” couldn’t be more relevant. Like everyone else in the world, Kenyans are experiencing inflation, shifting politics, and everyday social tension.
The Moth aims to bring an evening of contemplation, of strength and some laughs, along the way.
Since over 25 years, The Moth has presented voices from all over the world astronauts, refugees, parents, artists, and activists to tell true stories live and unscripted.
Each Mainstage features five storytellers who recount deeply personal tales that blend humour, honesty, and courage.
Nairobi’s event is part of a global season of 18 Mainstage shows happening this fall. For the first time in the organisation’s 28-year history, all will carry the same theme.
Still, no two nights are alike every stage brings a different mix of voices and experiences.
“Having all of our Mainstages on one theme enables us to transcend the stories themselves. It’s a community conversation,” stated The Moth’s CEO Sarah Haberman. “Each evening has its own rhythm, but together they form a portrait of vulnerability and courage.”
Haberman noticed that part of the reason narratives are so engaging is that they unite people. People learn narratives much more than naked facts, studies suggest.
In Kenya, where resilience pervades everyday life, the stage is a place of healing and solidarity.
The Nairobi show will also spotlight African voices. “This year’s theme, Daring to Hope, is especially meaningful,” said Sarah Austin Jenness, The Moth’s Executive Producer. “We’re proud to amplify Pan-African storytellers and share experiences that inspire connection.”
The Moth has a tradition in Kenya with its Global Community Program, which now includes more than 800 tellers across over 50 countries.
Nairobi embraced the tradition after it first hosted its Mainstage six years ago and has since become a key stop on the global tour.
In November, The Moth provides more than entertainment. It’s an invitation to hear, connect and be open to hope.
