Muslim leaders have called for stronger engagement in national policy, governance and development following the National Muslim Leaders Convention 2026, which brought together political leaders, government officials, scholars and business representatives.
United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan attended the convention organised by the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) under the leadership of Hassan Ole Nadoo.
The gathering focused on strengthening the Muslim community’s participation in national decision-making and identifying opportunities to advance inclusive development across different sectors of the economy.
Speaking at the event, Omar urged Muslim leaders to support and reciprocate what he described as the inclusive agenda of President William Ruto’s administration.
He said the Muslim community had been represented across various sectors, including security, finance and political party structures, arguing that such participation was important in promoting equity.
To consolidate the gains discussed during the convention, participants resolved to establish a permanent consultative framework aimed at strengthening engagement with government and expanding opportunities for more Kenyans.
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale commended SUPKEM’s leadership for its stewardship of the convention and expressed support for its position on President Ruto’s re-election.
Principal Secretary for the State Department for Science, Research and Innovation Professor Shaukat Abdulrazak reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing inclusive development programmes.
The discussions brought together scholars, institutional leaders, senior government officials, Muslim legislators, civil servants and business leaders to deliberate on the community’s role in national development.
Among those who attended were Eldas MP Adan Keynan and David Ndii, Chairperson of the President’s Council of Economic Advisors.
The convention highlighted the role of organised community engagement in shaping policy discussions, strengthening representation and identifying ways to broaden participation in Kenya’s development agenda.
