Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has inspected the ongoing construction of Kidundu Stadium in Vihiga County, highlighting the facility’s potential to nurture young talent, create employment opportunities and stimulate economic activity in the region.

Mudavadi said the investment goes beyond providing a sporting venue, arguing that modern sports infrastructure can help young people develop their abilities while opening up economic opportunities for communities around the facility.

In a statement shared on X, the Prime Cabinet Secretary expressed satisfaction with the progress of construction, linking the project to Kenya’s broader ambition of developing talent and strengthening the country’s sporting sector.

“Kenya has the talent. We must create the opportunities to match it,” Mudavadi said.

The stadium is expected to provide a platform for aspiring athletes to develop their skills and compete, while creating opportunities for coaches, sports administrators and other professionals in the sporting industry.

Mudavadi also pointed to the potential economic benefits of the project, noting that investments in sports facilities can support local businesses and create jobs during construction and subsequent operations.

Traders, food vendors, transport operators and other small businesses could benefit from increased activity as sporting events and other gatherings attract participants and spectators to the area.

The inspection comes amid broader efforts to strengthen sports infrastructure and expand opportunities for young people across the country. Access to quality training facilities remains an important factor in identifying and developing athletes who can represent Kenya in national and international competitions.

Mudavadi framed the project as part of a long-term investment in the next generation, emphasising the connection between infrastructure development, talent development and economic empowerment.

“We are not just building a stadium. We are building dreams, opportunities and a stronger sporting future,” he said.

The progress of the Kidundu Stadium project will therefore be significant to residents of Vihiga County, particularly young people seeking opportunities in sports and related industries.

However, the full impact of the investment will depend on the completion of the facility, its accessibility to local communities and the programmes established to support talent development and regular sporting activities.

Once operational, the stadium could serve as an important venue for competitions, training and community events, providing a focal point for sports development in Vihiga County.
