Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, has held talks with South Sudan Presidential Envoy for Special Programs Adut Salva Kiir on strengthening relations between the two neighbouring countries.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 21st African Union Extraordinary Summit in Luanda, Angola, where the two leaders discussed ways of deepening Kenya-South Sudan cooperation.
Mudavadi said the discussions focused on expanding trade and economic cooperation while strengthening security collaboration between the two countries, particularly through the East African Community (EAC).
He emphasised that peace and stability in the region remain critical to creating stronger markets, safer communities and greater economic opportunities for citizens.
“Peace and stability in our neighbourhood are the foundation for stronger trade, safer communities and greater opportunities for our people,” Mudavadi said.
The Prime Cabinet Secretary noted that Kenya and South Sudan share deep historical and people-to-people ties that continue to shape relations between the two countries.
He said Kenya remains committed to strengthening these ties while working with South Sudan and other regional partners to address emerging security, economic and global challenges.
Mudavadi also reaffirmed Kenya’s position that sustained dialogue remains an important pathway towards achieving unity, peace and lasting stability in the region.
According to Mudavadi, stronger cooperation between Kenya and South Sudan would contribute to safer borders, stronger regional markets and improved opportunities for citizens.
“Kenya and South Sudan share more than a border and history, our futures are connected,” he said.
