Acase filed by residents of Mwachome village in Matuga Constituency, Kwale County, against Bamburi Cement Company will be mentioned on October 9 at the Mombasa High Court for further directions.

Kwale Environment and Land Court Judge Lucas Naikuni ruled that the petition must be amended to align with legal principles before it can be transferred to the Environmental and Land Court in Kwale for hearing and determination.

The residents accuse Bamburi Cement of breaching an agreement by delaying compensation for their land since 2022. They argue that despite repeated engagements, the company has failed to honor its commitment, leaving families in uncertainty over their property rights.

The upcoming mention is expected to chart the way forward in what has become a contentious land compensation dispute between the community and the cement manufacturer.
