Missing activist Collins Otieno has been found and taken to hospital after he was reportedly discovered along Thika Road early Saturday morning.
Otieno had gone missing after he reportedly joined efforts to trace fellow activist Boniface Mulinge Muteti, who had also disappeared earlier in the week.
According to Vocal Africa Chief Executive Officer Hussein Khalid, Otieno was found at around 4:30am on Saturday, September 26.
Khalid said a boda boda rider who came across the activist helped take him to Neema Uhai Hospital in Kasarani, where he was receiving treatment.
He said Otieno was weak, disoriented and injured when he was found.
“Comrade Collins Otieno has been found. He was dumped along Thika Road. A good Samaritan boda boda guy found him around 4.30am and rushed him to hospital,” Khalid said.
“Like comrade Muteti, Collins is disoriented, weak, and injured. He is presently at Neema Uhai Hospital around Kasarani receiving treatment.”
Otieno was among activists arrested in Nairobi’s Central Business District on Monday, September 21, during protests over the continued detention of Ugandan opposition leader Kizza Besigye.
He later reportedly went to report Muteti’s disappearance and help establish his whereabouts before he too was reported missing.
His whereabouts remained unknown until he was found on Saturday.
The circumstances surrounding his disappearance and how he ended up along Thika Road had not been explained by the time of publication.
Muteti Found in Machakos
Otieno’s recovery comes a day after Muteti was also found alive in Machakos.
Muteti had reportedly disappeared on Monday after leaving fellow protesters in Nairobi CBD to print a petition.
He was found on Friday morning in the Lukenya area of Machakos and taken to Sanel Hospital in Mlolongo for treatment after he was found injured and disoriented.
The two cases have drawn attention from activists, who have been seeking answers over the whereabouts of the two men.
The activists had been protesting over the circumstances surrounding the transfer of Ugandan opposition leader Kizza Besigye from Kenya to Uganda.
Besigye disappeared from Nairobi in November 2024 before later appearing in Uganda, where he was arraigned and initially faced proceedings before a military court.
Activists have continued to demand an explanation over how Besigye was transferred to Uganda and whether Kenyan police were involved.
Besigye is currently facing charges of treason and misprision of treason before the High Court of Uganda.
