The Ministry of Health is stepping up efforts to reduce preventable maternal and newborn deaths through the Every Woman, Every Newborn, Everywhere (EWENE) campaign. The initiative aims to enhance coordination and strategic communication in addressing reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health (RMNCAH) across the country.

During a message finalisation workshop held in Machakos, Dr Edward Serem, Head of the Division of Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH), called for deliberate action to address maternal and newborn health challenges. He said the campaign is focused on ensuring the right people are sensitised and the right messages are delivered to the target audiences.

Dr Serem noted the urgent need to reduce cases of maternal and newborn deaths in the country, stressing that appropriate messaging and public awareness are key components. He also highlighted the importance of resource mobilisation to support sustainable interventions at both national and county levels.

The EWENE campaign is part of Kenya’s broader health agenda, contributing to the achievement of Universal Health Coverage and Sustainable Development Goals by ensuring no woman or newborn is left behind.
