The Ministry of Health has held talks with health sector partners on Kenya’s response to Ebola, focusing on funding gaps and the resources needed to contain the outbreak.
The meeting brought together the Development Partners for Health in Kenya (DPHK), Health NGOs Network (HENNET), Kenya Healthcare Federation (KHF) and the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS).
According to the ministry, the discussions centred on the changing situation, national response priorities and ways to mobilise resources to support the ongoing efforts.
The partners also looked at how their support could be better coordinated in key areas, including disease surveillance, contact tracing, laboratory testing and treatment of patients.
Other issues that were raised include infection control and community engagement.
The ministry indicated that it was necessary to coordinate the government and their partners so that the resources can be used to cater to the needs in such areas.
This would involve timely funding and cooperation so as to curb the spread of the virus and protect health workers and the communities at large.
The ministry emphasized that it would work with partners using a collaborative approach from the government agencies and the general public for the benefit of Kenyans.
