Three suspects have been arrested in connection with a violent attack on Chemelil Academy in Muhoroni Sub-County that left school administrators injured and property destroyed.

Police said the incident occurred on June 18, 2026, after a gang of about 20 men armed with crude weapons stormed the institution, causing panic among staff and students.

Officers responding to a distress call found the attackers fleeing in different directions, with some escaping towards Achego while others disappeared into nearby sugarcane plantations.

According to investigators, the gang forcefully entered the school’s administration block and vandalized the offices of the Principal and Deputy Principal. During the attack, staff members were assaulted and robbed of 10 smartphones, cash and other valuables.

The injured victims were rushed to Nyang’oma Sub-County Hospital, where they are receiving treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.

Following an intensive manhunt, detectives arrested Bernard Ouma, Thomas Onyango Ouma, and Walter Owa alias Teddy Obul at various locations within Chemelil.

The suspects are currently in police custody undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment in court.

Police have launched a wider operation to track down other members of the gang who remain at large. Authorities have vowed to bring all those involved in the attack to justice, describing the incident as a serious threat to the safety of learning institutions in the region.

Investigators are also pursuing leads to establish the motive behind the attack and whether it was linked to any ongoing disputes involving the school. Security agencies have assured residents that efforts are underway to restore calm and enhance security around educational institutions in Muhoroni and the surrounding areas.
